Environmental Policy

Babyjo is committed to fostering an environmentally passive culture throughout its entire business. Our founders are family people, as well as being outdoor loving conservationists, who enjoy the ocean areas, forests and bush-lands and will do everything possible to preserve nature’s untainted purity for their children, and generations to come. Our business operations are a reflection of this underlying philosophy.

To achieve this, Babyjo will:

•    Ensure as far as possible that fabrics & materials are used and applied in an environmentally friendly manner according to manufacturers specification, with emphasis being placed on re-usable/recycled raw packaging materials utilized by our suppliers.
•    Engage suppliers who have achieved Oeko-Tex 100 certification.
•    Provide all employees & sub contractors with training in safe / eco-safe handling of materials and the application of materials in all areas.
•    That regenerated cellulose fiber produced from bamboo, soy and wood must be Oeko-Tex 100 certified.
•    Dispose of all waste that cannot be reused or recycled according to regulatory laws & regulations in a responsible manner so as to minimize impact on the environment.
•    Recognise the National Packaging Covenant and what it represents.
•    Continuously audit misuse / inappropriate disposal of waste with a view to elimination across the entire business that does not comply with Company policy or statutory requirements, and implement preventive actions to minimize the risk of occurrence.
•    Comply with all relevant environmental protection laws and regulations.
•    Compile a site specific environmental program to ensure adherence to Company and regulatory requirements including administrative activities as well as transport & logistics.
•    Involve & consult employees, government authorities, regulatory bodies and customers to identifying improved use of post consumer materials.
•    Ensure we use minimum electricity required to operate the business, and working from home where possible. For example our office space is well lit to take advantage of outdoor light throughout the day. The office lights are low wattage fluorescent bulbs for those times when work extends beyond daylight hours.

Green Office
Running an e-commerce business inherently requires the use of computers and office equipment. We choose to offset carbon emissions created through daily business activities by purchasing carbon credits through Tick Green or similar companies committed to preservation of our earth.
Whenever possible, multi-functional office equipment is used. This reduces overall power consumption and reduces environmental impact, as less energy and manufacturing is involved in the production of multi-functional devices. All office equipment meets the highest EPA standard for electricity usage and is turned off at end of day to conserve energy.
Paper accounts for almost 40% of all land-fill waste. For us, that’s a good enough reason to strive toward being a paperless office.
All efforts are made to minimize paper usage relying instead on maintaining digital records and sharing information digitally. If printing is required, we only use recycled paper and reuse after it’s intended use where possible.
All office by-products such as toner cartridges, paper products, plastics, etc. are recycled.
All waste we might produce that can be recycled (e.g. aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles, paper, cardboard, etc.) is recycled, and all organics (coffee grains, tea bags, etc.) are composted in our home worm farm – great for the garden.

It’s the small things.
•    All packages (other than those too large to carry) are walked to the nearest post office (45 minute round trip) to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles.
•    Only eco-friendly cleaning products are used.
•    We purchase only fair trade organic coffee for office use.
•    Second and samples unsold through our site are donated for use by needy families or disadvantaged newborn children.
•    For protection and cleanliness, our garments come packaged in plastic, however we re use and recycle this packaging in any possible way – we would appreciate it if you do too.
•    All gift boxes are made from recycled papier mache packaging

We not only make this commitment to a sustainable future ourselves, but we also invite you to join us in making greener, more sustainable choices every day, starting with sustainable clothing that won’t compromise your style or your bank account.
